Resolutions & siblings
I stopped writing New Year’s resolutions at like age eight - you know when my mom stopped forcing me to write them.
But then my mom pulls out the archives, and suddenly it’s 2007, and my brother’s “top” goal is to eat a whole pizza. Mine is to be a dog. My sister’s is to never miss school.
We put so much pressure around resolutions, but they don’t have to be so big. They can be fun and nostalgic and silly. My siblings and I probably have a lot bigger goals now, but everything is relative. You can just eat a whole pizza. Or turn into a dog. Habits are stackable (like perfect attendance).
These are some of my favorite 2024 resolutions (now that I write goals again):
Dye my hair platinum blonde or dark brown
Actually take my allergy medicine
Travel to a new country every year
Read something good every week
Give myself grace - There will be days where it feels like nothing gets done and days where it feels like everything gets done. (The days stay the same, but the years make the change).
I like to benchmark my goals every couple months. Will I ever dye my hair platinum blonde? Am I actually giving myself grace?
Sometimes old resolutions tell you what you already know. Go on the trip, move to the new city, take the job.
Write it down, you never know what comes true :)
And that’s the skinny.
Cheers to making goals :)
